The airport serves Detroit–Windsor, Northwest Ohio, and is the hub for Delta Air Lines and the operating base for Spirit Airlines. It is a public airport that had over 31 million passengers in 2023.

There are two terminals at the DTW: McNamara Terminal and Evans Terminal.
